White Deer

Description The white deer is just a white-tailed deer that has a rare white color. It is a medium-sized deer that naturally lives in the United States, South America, Canada, Central America, and some countries in Europe including Finland and Serbia.  During the summer season, they live in meadows and fields. On the other hand, they seek shelter in the forests during the winter. The white-tailed deer is classified as herbivorous, and its diet typically consists of grass, leaves, fruits, alfalfa, fungi, corn, and other plant material. They are more active during the dawn, dusk, and night, but may also move around occasionally during the day. Normally, the white-tailed deer’s coat is reddish brown during the summer, but this transforms into a grayish-brown color during the winter season. Males are characterized by their antlers, which grow in the summer or autumn, and then fall off during the winter season. They use these antlers to fight against other males to obtain a territory. It is during the month of May or June when females give birth to around 1 to 3 babies called fawns, after a gestation period that lasts for 7 months. In their natural habitats, white-tailed deer are preyed upon by mountain lions, bobcats, and other predators. However, they can manage to escape from these predators due to their speed and jumping ability. They can reach speeds of up to 30 miles an hour, and leap at a distance of 30 feet and height of 10 feet.

Status According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the white-tailed deer is classified as Least Concern, but the white variety is extremely rare. Although the numbers of this species has been depleted by excessive hunting in the US, strict regulations have been implemented to restore their population.
