White Faced Capuchin Monkey
Description The White Faced Capuchin Monkey is a lean medium-sized monkey species that is agile, clever, and easy to train. The coat of this animal is dark brown in color, but it has light tan or cream colored fur around the face, shoulders, and neck. Meanwhile, its face is normally white or pinkish. These monkeys usually move by jumping from one tree to the next. In order to mark their territory, they soak their hands and feet in their urine to leave a scent. They normally sleep on the branches of trees during the day and only go down to find water to drink. White faced capuchin monkeys are considered highly adaptable monkeys that can survive in all types of forests. Moreover, they can even adapt to locations that are colonized by human beings. These animals are normally found in Central America, and the northern part of South America. The white faced capuchin monkey is classified as an omnivore and its diet typically consists of fruits, nuts, leaves, insects, frogs, small birds, and small mammals. These monkeys are also social creatures that live in troops consisting of about 20 individuals. Most of the time, there are more females than males in a troop. Furthermore, there is an alpha male, which protects the group and breed with the females. It is believed that white faced capuchin monkeys are not highly territorial because they spend a significant amount of time moving from one place to another. They travel approximately 2 kilometers a day on average.
Status According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the White Faced Capuchin Monkey is classified as Least Concern. However, they are being hunted for their meat and captured to be traded as pets because they can be trained easily.
