  • Description The White Cockatoo is also known as Umbrella Cockatoo because of its large crest that looks like an umbrella. This type of bird’s feathers is mostly white, but it also has lemon yellow feathers located under its tail and wings, as well as in the innermost covered areas of the crest. Just like parrots, the white cockatoo has zygodactyl feet that consist of two toes facing backward and two more facing forward. The structure of its feet allows it to effectively hold objects with one foot while standing on the other foot Compared to the female white cockatoo, the male has a broader head and a larger beak. The iris of the eyes of adult males are color black, while that of the adult females are reddish or brown in color. This type of bird naturally lives in the lowland tropical rainforests of several islands of Indonesia. They eat different kinds of fruits such as papaya, durian, and rambutan, as well as maize, nuts, and seeds. Skinks and crickets are also part of their diet. White Cockatoos can be considered very intelligent and affectionate. These traits make them good pets and are also the reason they are often used in magic shows or animal performances. This type of bird can make use of tools such as twigs for scratching their back, can do gymnastics, and even imitate human speech.

Status: The International Union for Conservation of Nature categorized White Cockatoos as endangered. The populations of this type of bird have significantly declined because they are captured and their natural habitats are destroyed.
